Why Treated Wood?

Why treated wood? The simple answer is pressure treated wood/lumber has been a critical part of the building industry for centuries. While many things have changed over the years, treatments, chemicals, additives, etc., what has remained constant is Coos Head Forest Product’s commitment to getting you the right product for your job every time. Our sales staff works closely with our preservative providers to ensure that we have the most up to date information on uses and restrictions for all our pressure treated products. Please consult your sales rep for uses, restrictions and what product is best for your project. Or you can go to our supplier’s websites directly by visiting our Resources/MSDS section.
Why treated wood? Coos Head Forest Products recommends that you always follow manufacturers’ warnings for use and handling of pressure treated lumber. Precautions for pressure treated lumber are the same as precautions for non-treated lumber. For specific questions or inquiries please refer to the MSDS sheets located in the Resources/MSDS section.
Can you use treated wood on interior applications? The simple answer is yes! Pressure treated lumber can be used in interior applications except for uses that involve food preparation, such as cutting boards and countertops. Homeowners will be happy to know that pressure treated lumber installed inside their homes is also safe. Pressure treated lumber poses no danger from leaching, chemical breakdown or off-gassing, when used in an interior use. In fact there are some treatments like our Borate treatments that are specifically formulated for interior uses where there is still a need for protection from rot, decay and termite infestation but not exposed to the elements. Borate treatments offer great protection for walls, truss applications and most commonly sill plate. You can learn more about our Borate treatments or any treatment we use in our Products section.
Also provided in our Resource section is information regarding many industry organizations who are involved in keeping consumers and contractors safe when using and handling pressure treated lumber in any application. Please refer to the treated wood industry contacts heading in the Resources/MSDS section.
One of the most common concerns when the question, “is treated wood safe?” comes up is on the topic of CCA (Chromated Copper Arsenate) treated material. Coos Head Forest Products only produces CCA for limited commercial and agricultural uses and abides by the regulations set forth by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Western Wood Products Association (WWPA).
