Homeowner FAQ
Q: What is Pressure Treated Lumber?
A: Lumber and other building products made of wood are an economical and renewable building resource. However, untreated lumber is subject to attack by insects, micro-organisms, and decay-causing fungi. To help ensure long-term structural performance, untreated lumber must be protected from these naturally occurring forms of decay. Preserved wood is lumber or plywood that has been pressure treated with wood preservatives to help protect it from termites and fungal decay. Pressure treatment is the process by which lumber and other wood products are preserved.
Q: How is Lumber Pressure Treated?
A: There are a variety of lumber preservatives and application methods used around the world including high pressure penetration, low pressure, and vacuum methods of preservative application. Dip treatments and brush or spray-on application methods may also be used. The art of lumber preservation is matching the best preservative and application method to the wood species and the end use of the finished product. At Coos Head, our goal is to produce economical, durable, and readily available preserved lumber and other wood products for a wide variety of applications. We utilize high pressure water-borne preservatives and offer a variety of treatment and species options for the different markets we serve and we are constantly looking for more!
